Yemeni forces advance against Houthis in Al-Jawf

IllustrationThe story so far
On 1 November, Yemeni government forces said they recaptured positions and strategic heights east of al-Hazm, while Houthis said they thwarted advances there and in Marib. The army said the 1st Emergency Brigade seized weapons and ammunition depots and destroyed armoured vehicles. The next day, government forces launched a major counteroffensive in Al-Jawf, with a field commander saying they controlled the Huwaishan mountain range and had partial control of the Al-Alam front road.
By 3 November, the army said it launched 951 operations against Houthi positions over the past 24 hours. Spokesperson Majed al-Nuzaili said the operations neutralized around 332 Houthi field commanders and fighters and destroyed or damaged 56 vehicles, pieces of equipment and weapons across fronts including Al-Jawf, Marib and Al-Bayda. On 4 November, forces said they seized Houthi fortifications and barracks in the al-Dahida mountain range in eastern Al-Jawf, while Houthi strikes killed eight at a training camp in al-Dhalea and four in Taiz.
On 5 November, the UN recognised government dismissed ministers and military officers to reverse Houthi gains and lift the four week siege of Taiz. The shakeup followed a failed counteroffensive launched on 5 October and pressure from southern Yemenis for greater power, as Houthi forces were reported to be about 37 miles from Aden.
