Methodology
How every Daily Summary Of edition is collected, selected, written and published.
Coverage window
Each edition covers one full UTC day, from 00:00 to 23:59. Using a single global timezone means every reader, anywhere in the world, sees the same edition for the same date.
Today’s edition is live: it goes up once a topic has enough news and grows continuously as stories develop. After 23:59 UTC it gets a final update and becomes the final edition for that day.
How we collect
Throughout the day we follow leading international publishers, specialist outlets for each topic, and official sources such as government statements, company announcements, court rulings and research journals.
How we select
Stories are ranked by significance. We look at how many people a development affects, whether it marks a real change rather than an incremental update, and whether it is confirmed by more than one reliable source.
Each topic usually carries four to eight stories. On quieter days an edition may be shorter; we do not add filler to reach a number.
How we write
Each story gets a clear, factual headline and a short summary based on the reporting we link to. We use plain, neutral language and avoid opinion, speculation and sensational wording.
Numbers, names and quotes are taken from the linked sources.
Daily images
Each story has an image created for Daily Summary Of. It shows the setting of the story, such as a place or an institution, and is not a news photograph of the event. These images are labelled Illustration.
Updates after publication
If an important development changes a story after publication, we update the summary and show the updated time on the page. Each edition keeps its date and permanent address.
Developing stories
Some events keep developing for days or weeks. When an event makes news on more than one day and is reported by several outlets, we give it one permanent page that follows it from the first report to the latest update.
Each developing story page shows what happened so far, a dated timeline of every update, the key facts, and links to all the reporting. Every key fact names the outlets that reported it.
Every story has a status. Developing means it has had an update in the last three days, Stable means it has been quiet for longer, and Closed means it has had no update for two weeks. Every story page stays online.
Daily editions remain a record of what was known on that day. When a later development changes a story, we add it to the story page and the next edition, and do not silently rewrite earlier editions.
