The story so far

Mercedes entered the Sao Paulo Grand Prix with a chance to clinch the Formula 1 Constructors' Championship. Ferrari was 126 points behind with four rounds left, and Mercedes needed to outscore the Italian team by three or more points. George Russell skipped post-race media after finishing sixth in Mexico, where Toto Wolff called the race a catastrophic moment for the driver. Russell then took a five-place grid penalty at Sao Paulo for a fresh Mercedes engine.

Lando Norris took pole for the Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos after heavy rain delayed qualifying. He beat Russell by 0.204 seconds, while engine penalties put Kimi Antonelli second and Liam Lawson third. Norris said McLaren lacked dry pace against Mercedes and hoped for rain, with forecasts pointing to wet conditions. Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton will start from the back row, and Mercedes could still take the constructors' title on Sunday.
